This 2021 painting, Holy Isabella by Chilean-Peruvian artist Ivana de Vivanco, showcases her signature theatrical, ironic style and vibrant "acid" color palette. The composition features a female figure with distorted proportions, whose greenish face and blazing orange background create a highly surreal atmosphere. The central focus of the work is a glowing green banana held in her hand—a recurring, politically charged symbol in the artist's oeuvre that references Latin America's neocolonial history. Through the title and the motif of holiness, the piece humorously deconstructs historical power and religious discourses, elevating a mundane object to a sacred status.
