Giorgio Celin (b. 1986, Barranquilla, Colombia) is a Colombian painter who grew up in Italy and lives and works in Barcelona, Spain. His figurative paintings draw on his experience as a queer migrant and address themes of belonging, relationships and nostalgia. Celin describes his practice as exploring the longing for intimacy and the tenderness and melancholy of living in a lonely, individualistic world, while celebrating the beauty, queerness and complexity of the Latinx diaspora. His canvases often show couples in intimate moments, rendered in vivid shades of purple, red and blue, with bold contours and curving, elongated limbs. Narrative is central to his work, and individual paintings function as condensed moments and memories. His work has been shown at venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome (2019), Eve Leibe Gallery in London (2021), Galleria Annarumma in Naples, 68 projects in Berlin, Asia Art Center in Taipei, Breach Gallery in Miami, and 1969 Gallery in New York (2023), as well as at EXPO Chicago (2023). The painting “Noche de luna llena” (Full Moon Night, 2021), oil and oil stick on canvas, offered by TUMO Gallery, belongs to this body of nocturnal, intimate figurative scenes.
