OPAQUE is an experimental series of works by Alpha Odh, initiated in 2023. All the pieces are painted with a very thin layer of acrylic on vinyl fabric. The shades and visible imagery of these paintings change depending on the environment and the light affecting them.

At the same time, these paintings appear "naked" and entirely "open"—the thin layer of paint and the painting technique do not allow for mistakes to be hidden beneath additional layers. The translucent fabric reveals the frame and the edges of the painting, which remain untouched by paint, exposing the entire structure of the artwork, with almost no hidden elements.

Alpha Odh was inspired to create transparent paintings, penetrated and affected by light, by the history of church stained glass windows: “Church stained glass was born from the desire to create a picture that connects with God. That’s why they are transparent—so that God’s light can travel through them.” The transparent canvas becomes a kind of membrane, a layer that is not final. This surface is pierced by the environment, and their synthesis reaches the viewer: "When the painting is placed against a dark surface and light is directed onto it, only the surface of the canvas is visible. But when light is allowed to pass through the canvas, a new perspective is revealed, allowing the painting to extend beyond its boundaries."
