Silviane Léger (1935–2012) was a French sculptor from Lille who trained at ENSAIT in Roubaix and at the École des beaux-arts de Lille. Many of her works were made for public spaces in northern France, and her “Standing Pietà” (1988) is in the collection of La Piscine museum in Roubaix. Her monumental, figurative and expressive sculpture, mostly in bronze, returns again and again to human relationships, family and labour.

Silviane Léger (1935–2012) was a French sculptor from Lille. She studied for a year at the École nationale supérieure des arts et industries textiles (ENSAIT) in Roubaix and then for four years at the École des beaux-arts de Lille. Léger became known for monumental, figurative and expressive sculpture, working mainly in bronze. Recurring themes in her work are human relationships, family and labour. Many of her pieces were conceived for public space in northern France. Among them are “The Man with the Child” (1981) in Faches-Thumesnil, “Paternity” (1983) at the Pont de Bois metro station in Villeneuve-d’Ascq and “The Miner” (2011) at the town hall of Auby. Her “Standing Pietà” (1988) is in the collection of La Piscine museum in Roubaix. She died in Tourcoing in 2012. The bronze “Main flamme” (Hand-Flame), cast in an edition numbered 8/8 and offered by TUMO Gallery, reflects her expressive treatment of the human body.
