Paulina Simutytė

Paulina Simutytė [b. 1991] is an artist whose practice spans visual and interdisciplinary arts, theatre, and music. Her painting is dominated by abstractions that invite associative thinking, dreamlike states, and each viewer’s unique interpretation. She works with canvas, acrylic paints, and artificial light, layering blue and yellow tones. The element of light reveals shifting spatial perspectives and unexpected color variations. Her work offers a paradoxical experience — up close, intricate details emerge; from a distance, the composition blends into a unified whole.

Paulina’s creative field also extends into theatre, where she creates roles and scenography for distinctly visual and musical performances — where the action unfolds like animated musical paintings: "Kafka Insomnia" [2020], "Vyras, kuris savo žmoną palaikė skrybėle" / "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" [2021]. In her installations, she highlights the synergy of visual art, music, and light, exploring dreamlike, archaic, and existential themes: "Alchemija" / "Alchemy" [2021], "Laikas gimti ir laikas mirti" / "A Time to Be Born and a Time to Die" [2021].

She also designs album covers and graphic scores. Her musical creativity, textual abstraction, and vocal abilities are most vividly expressed in her work with the band "lazy diamond’s underground".

Recently, she has begun extracting pigments from rocks found in rivers as a way to explore natural color palettes — resulting in the release of a combined music and art album, "Stone Poetry" [2022].
