T. Madonsela completed studies in graphic arts and printmaking. In his work, the artist employs traditional art techniques, drawing with charcoal and creating mosaics. His pieces often feature iconic, naked, faceless, and frequently laughing figures. T. Madonsela envisions a hybrid identity through his art. The widely open, laughing mouths of the figures serve as a critique of their environment and the context created by the artist. The paintings tell stories of people living in foreign lands, who have learned to call them home despite the environment and the debilitating societal views.
