Regina Gimenez (born 1966) lives and works in Barcelona. Since the 1990s, she has established herself as one of the most active contemporary Catalan artists both locally and internationally.
Drawing elements from their original context, such as old nautical charts or geography books, and reshaping them into new compositions, Regina Gimenez explores aesthetic and formal aspects of graphic imagery in her artworks. The exploration results in a world of astonishing beauty and simplicity, where colors and geometric forms materialize universal dialogues, such as abstraction and figuration, color and monochrome, or whole and fragment.
It is a versatile collection of works, composed of objects of different natures – from painting on canvas and collages on paper to textile creations, traversing through various materials and techniques like methacrylate or photography.
R. Gimenez has been awarded various prizes throughout her artistic career, including the first prize at the Tarragona Art Biennial (2010), the first prize Ricardo Camí from Caixa de Terrassa (2001), the first prize at the 30th and 37th Sala Parés awards (1998 and 1995). She also received the "Fundació Enciclopèdia Catalana" award in 1999.
Her works are held in collections such as the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), the "la Caixa" Foundation, Banc Sabadell Foundation, Vila Casas Foundation, Museum of Contemporary Art of Castile and León (MUSAC), "Fondation Comprime," as well as in private collections including Lawrence B. Benenson in New York, Adriana Cisneros in New York and Miami, Jameston Group in New York and Atlanta, or Isabel Marant in Paris.
