One of the pioneers of European conceptual art, Jacques Charlier (born 1939 in Liège, Belgium) adopts a process defined by his critical approach of the art world and the current clichés regarding the avant-garde. Owing to his constant quest for appropriate connections between ideas and media, he favours an interdisciplinary way of working. He picks successively painting, photography, video, music, writing, sculpture, installation, comics or advertisement. He uses easily the language of different styles and periods to underline and caricature the qualities, the contradictions and the declines of the dominant artistic movements. Jacques Charlier has participated in numerous international solo and group exhibitions. His works can be found in important private and public collections in Belgium, France and Luxembourg
