Hiroshi Hattori (b. 1932, Tokyo) is a Japanese artist associated with postwar geometric abstraction, Op Art, and hard-edge painting. After graduating from the Bunka Gakuin Institute in Tokyo in 1953, he joined the Japan Modern Art Association and held four solo exhibitions at Yoseido Gallery between 1958 and 1961.
In 1963, Hattori studied at the Art Students League of New York and subsequently became active in the United States. He exhibited at the Silvermine Guild’s New England Exhibition in 1964, 1965, 1966, and 1969, receiving the Larry Aldrich Award in 1969. Archival records also document his association with Henri Gallery, Finch College Museum of Art, and, by 1972, The Museum of Modern Art’s Art Lending Service and Art Advisory Service.
