This bijin-ga print depicts a fashionable woman associated with the Shin-Yoshiwara pleasure quarter. The figure’s elegant posture and detailed kimono patterns emphasize refinement and sensuality. Eisen’s style combines decorative richness with psychological presence. The work reflects urban culture in late Edo Japan.

Keisai Eisen (1790–1848) was a leading ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period, best known for his portraits of beautiful women. His works often portray courtesans with elongated proportions, expressive faces, and rich textile patterns. Eisen’s style bridges the elegance of earlier masters with the realism of later ukiyo-e. He was highly influential in defining bijin-ga aesthetics of the 1820s–1830s. Eisen also collaborated with major publishers of his time.
