Christian HIADZI (Ghana / UK)
Christian Hiadzi is a contemporary African artist and professional architect, born in Ghana and later moved to London, where he still resides. For almost a decade, Christian worked in the fields of architecture, design, and engineering before dedicating himself to painting.
In the artist's work, figurative, stylized compositions, strict lines, vivid colors inspired by his native Ghana, and influences from the fashion world are combined, often accompanied by a monochromatic background. The portraits created by Christian reveal human thought conflicts, complexity, and serve as a means of "observing the human soul." The contours of the face, filled with abstract imagery, become a challenge to the imagination and encourage stepping beyond the bounds of obvious perception.
According to Christian, the artworks he creates are "a means to take the viewer's imagination beyond the bounds of obvious perception, aiming to reject the mundane, rebel against archetypes in the contemporary world, and challenge the status quo of society."
The main influences on his work include the art of Turner, Francis Bacon, Anselm Kiefer, as well as the works of fashion designer Alexander McQueen.
The artist's works are collected and exhibited internationally. Christian Hiadzi's artworks were presented at the Reclaim award exhibition in Cologne, Germany, in 2021, at Leyden gallery and Cylinder gallery in London in 2017, at Candid Art gallery's art and design fair in 2009, and at the Mite of Art exhibition in London in 2005. His artistic endeavors are covered by publications such as Afropunk, ART Habens, and Brogue Magazine.
