Vladas Liatukas (b. 1954, Teneniai, Šilalė district, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian printmaker known above all for his finely worked etchings. He graduated from the Graphic Art Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1979 and has worked in printmaking ever since. Drawn to the classical tradition from a young age, he chose engraving and etching on metal as his main medium. Liatukas is best known for his prints of Vilnius – its churches, courtyards, streets and architectural monuments, rendered with meticulous precision. One of his most recognised cycles, “Architectural and Art Monuments” (1987), also portrays key figures of Lithuanian culture such as Žemaitė, Maironis, Kristijonas Donelaitis and Adam Mickiewicz. His work openly expresses love for Lithuania and its poetry, with great attention paid to drawing and to the craft of the print itself. He has worked as a printmaking specialist at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, teaching students the practical side of intaglio techniques. In 2018 he initiated the exhibition “Bond of Generations” at the Arka gallery, honouring his teacher, the renowned etcher Prof. Leonas Lagauskas, and his students. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association. His Vilnius etchings, issued in numbered editions, are an elegant way to bring the character of the Old Town into a home or office.
