Klaus Grosskopf (1939–2017) was a German sculptor. Born in Berlin, he studied in Berlin and Paris. After German reunification he settled in rural Lower Saxony, living and working in Wehningen and later Strachau near the Elbe. Grosskopf is known above all for large, often larger-than-life sculptures in wood, bronze and stone. He worked internationally and took part in numerous sculpture symposia, creating works in Morocco, Estonia, Egypt, Slovenia and Romania. In 1997 he received the Culture Prize of the Lüneburg district, and in 2009 the Dr. Hedwig Meyn Prize of the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg. His work is represented by the Stiftung für Bildhauerei (Foundation for Sculpture) in Berlin. Alongside monumental pieces he also produced small-scale bronzes. The bronze “Torso” (2004), cast in an edition of five and offered by TUMO Gallery as number 1/5, is a compact example of his figurative work in cast metal.
