Joseph Adibleku (b. 1985, Accra, Ghana), also known by the nickname “Joblek”, is a Ghanaian painter. He studied painting, graphic design and textile design over three years at art college, where his peers and teachers gave him the name by which he is still known. A visit to the Johannesburg Art Gallery and other major South African museums, where he encountered contemporary, traditional Southern African and international art, strengthened his commitment to painting as a profession. Adibleku works in acrylic, oil, watercolour, pastel and ink. His pictures draw on everyday life in Ghana and on the wider experience of contemporary Africa, with bold black strokes playing a central role in his visual language. His work has been shown in exhibitions in Europe and in workshops in Accra, and he is represented by Berj Art Gallery in Accra. The large oil painting “Pink Suit” (2022), offered by TUMO Gallery, is a figurative work in which colour and dress carry much of the image’s character.
