Elena Redmond (b. 1998, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) is an American painter based in New York. She received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Redmond works primarily through self-portraiture, which she uses to explore desire, privacy, vulnerability and power, and to question conventional notions of identity associated with a young, feminine body. She has described her paintings as extensions of herself – portraits of her anxieties, angers, habits and physicality. Humour, kitsch and vivid, jewel-toned colour sit alongside candid images of the body, presenting femininity and “largeness” as sources of strength rather than weakness. Her pictures often reference pop-culture moments and internet virality, and her surfaces build up through intersecting glazes and architectural framing devices. Her debut solo exhibition was held at Tchotchke Gallery in New York in 2022, followed the same year by a solo show at Long Story Short in Los Angeles and, in 2025, “Sitting Ducks” at DIMIN in New York. She has also taken part in group exhibitions at venues including the Orlando Museum of Art, Moosey Gallery in London, Arsenal Contemporary in Montreal and Hashimoto Contemporary in Los Angeles. The painting “Is That Too Scary for Ya?” (2020), made with light molding paste, acrylic and oil on canvas and measuring 101 × 121 cm, is offered by TUMO Gallery.
