Collection: David Aronson
David Aronson was born on October 28, 1923, in Šiluva, Lithuania, into an Orthodox Jewish family. His father was a rabbi. In 1929, Aronson moved to the United States and settled in Boston.
Aronson became a painter and sculptor. His work is associated with Boston Expressionism. He often used religious themes related to Judaism, Christianity, and Jewish mysticism in his artwork.
In 1955, Aronson began teaching at Boston University, where he founded the Fine Art Department. His works were exhibited in many cities around the world, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Paris, Rome, Berlin, and Copenhagen. His artwork can be found in the collections of more than 40 museums.
In 1960, Aronson received a Guggenheim Fellowship, and in 1967, he was elected an Academician of the National Academy of Design.
David Aronson died on July 2, 2015, in Natick, Massachusetts, at the age of 91.
