Bill Adams (b. 1957, New York, USA) is an American painter and sculptor. He received his MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1986. He divides his time between Orient, on Long Island, and New York City. His practice spans oil painting on linen, drawing and ceramic sculpture in terracotta and stoneware, with works that vary widely in style and technique. Much of his recent work responds to political events and national traumas, including 9/11 and the storming of the US Capitol on 6 January 2021, as in his “Insurrection” paintings of 2023. Since the mid-1990s he has held solo exhibitions at galleries including Kerry Schuss Gallery and Jeff Bailey Gallery, and more recently “Insurrections” at SHRINE in New York and “Homegrown” at Jupiter in Miami (both 2023). He has taken part in more than fifty group exhibitions, including at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Sarasota Art Museum. His work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The New Yorker and Artforum. The painting “Friend” (2004), oil on linen, offered by TUMO Gallery, represents his long-standing work in oil on linen.
