Aurelija Bulaukaitė (b. 1991, Vilnius, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian painter and sculptor based in Vilnius. She studied painting and sculpture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, completing a bachelor’s degree in 2021 and a master’s degree in sculpture in 2022, and spent an exchange period at the Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark, in 2019–2020. Her work explores the gap between idealistic dreams and the often harsh realities of everyday life. In recent years her research has turned to digital painting, the human body in cyberspace, multiple identities and the performance of self on social media, including a project in which she posed as a fictitious influencer. In 2021 she was a finalist of the 13th Young Painter’s Prize, with the finalists’ exhibition held at the MO Museum in Vilnius. She has taken part in group exhibitions such as “The Uncanny” in Vilnius and “Kontr-argumentas” at the Meno Parkas gallery in Kaunas (both 2022). Her solo exhibition “In My ??? Era” was shown at the Medūza gallery of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association in Vilnius in 2023, and “little Grand spells” at the ASNI gallery in Riga. In 2023 she was an artist in residence at Residency Unlimited in New York. The “Self Portret” (2018), oil on cardboard, offered by TUMO Gallery, is an early work from her student years.
