Signed, titled and dated 'UNTITLED #1 Cullen Washington Jr. 10/2012' on the reverse.

Oil, ink, found paper, tape, charcoal, cardboard and nylon strap collage on linen. A monumental work in which the chaos of collage is held within a grid-like order, in a palette ranging from cream to charcoal.

Cullen Washington, Jr. (b. 1972, Alexandria, Louisiana, USA) is an American abstract artist based in New York, with an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and a 2009 Joan Mitchell Foundation grant. His work is held by the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Saatchi collection. His non-representational practice explores order, chaos and creation, layering collage, printmaking and painting with tape, charcoal dust and chalkboard paint, often on a monumental scale.
