Collection: Marius Liugaila

Marius Liugaila (1953–2013) was a Lithuanian graphic artist активно involved in the international ex libris and small-scale printmaking scene. His work developed between classical printmaking techniques and contemporary, idea-driven art, where not only form but also the semantic layer plays an important role.

The artist held solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group projects in Lithuania and abroad. He received awards at international exhibitions and competitions. In 1999, he was included in the Italian register “100 Best Engravers in the World.”

His oeuvre is dominated by philosophical, allegorical, and surreal figurative compositions that raise questions about human existence and the relationship between humans and nature. His contribution to the field of ex libris is particularly significant—Liugaila’s works are characterized by precise composition, symbolism, and an intellectual narrative. His pieces were often created for collectors, intellectuals, or cultural figures, and therefore reflect individualized motifs as well as professional or biographical markers. His works are held in museums in Lithuania and abroad.
